Bill is a founding Senior Fellow in the National Institute for Careers Education and Counselling. His current work is in research and development on the uses of curriculum in careers work. That work currently includes developing 'bluesky' thinking for the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority - outlining a possible future for personal and social development in a reformed 11-19 curriculum. Bill is also working on key concepts and effective strategies for the management of integrated school- and college-based programmes - linked to children’s-trust networks. Dr. Arulmani is the Founder and Managing Trustee of The Promise Foundation. The Foundation is currently involved in developmental projects in collaborative partnerships with organisations such as the Government of Karnataka, Corporation of Chennai, the IBM International Foundation and the National Institute for Advanced Studies, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
Gideon has been a pioneer in researching the dynamics of school to work transition and the career development needs of young people in India and the developing world. His work has contributed to the development and standardisation of various career education packages that have reached many thousands of young people from a wide variety of backgrounds. His research has been presented at international conferences in England, Poland, Switzerland, Spain, France, Australia and South Africa as well as in important scientific journals. Most recently he has published a book on the theory and practice of career counselling (Career Counselling: A Handbook, Tata McGraw Hill, 2004).
