Industry Immersion Days

REGISTRATIONS NOW OPEN!

Taking place in Melbourne CBD, this activity aims to immerse students in one of the six priority growth industries, providing them with real life exposure to current work practices and workplaces. The six growth industries are Medical Technology and Pharmaceuticals, Food and Fibre, New Energy Technology, Transport, Defence, Construction Technology, International Education and Professional Services.  A total of six, one-day programs will be offered, with each day focusing on one or two of the growth industries. Students will gather in the morning at a central location in the CBD and then complete industry immersion activities throughout the day at two workplaces.

When does this happen?

Six Industry Immersion Days will run  in Terms 3 and 4, and will be based in Melbourne CBD.

What’s involved?

The Industry Immersion Days will focus on the government’s priority growth industries - Medical Technology and Pharmaceuticals, Food and Fibre, New Energy Technology, Transport, Defence, Construction Technology, International education and Professional services.

Students will be able to select two industry immersion experiences during their one-day placement. The Industry Immersion program will be mapped to the Victorian Curriculum.

REGISTRATIONS NOW OPEN!

For each of the Industry Immersion Days students will meet at a central location in the morning for an introduction and then move to their first Industry Immersion Day activity.

Teachers and students will need to meet at the introduction location that is listed for each Industry Immersion Day, CEAV will provide bus transport to and from each of the activities and then return students to the CBD for their journey home. Schools with additional transport needs can contact the CEAV for support. In addition, support to cover CRT while school teachers are attending the Industry Immersion Days is available. Requests need to be made in writing and emailed to tdavies@ceav.vic.edu.

Final Industry Immersion Day!

Time: 10.00am to 2.00pm

Location: 1 Batman’s Hill Drive Docklands – Kangan TAFE Automotive Skill Centre of Excellence

Morning Program: involves engagement with a number of members from Victoria Police including: Police, Protective Service Officers, Public Servants and Police Custody Officers. Victoria Police will provide presentations and one to one discussions with students interested in the day in the life of a member. In addition, students will receive pathways information on education, training and employment opportunities through VET for the Victorian Police Force. This is a rare opportunity for students to understand the professional policing workforce.

Afternoon Program: involves exploring the Transport and Logistics industry, what is involved in the transportation of goods from production, to wholesale sales, to point of sale. Education, training and employment pathways will be explained and students will receive materials to support their subject and course selection for senior years.  Transport and Logistics professionals will provide in-depth information on this growth industry for students.

This Industry Immersion day includes:

  • Transport to and from the venue for all schools wishing to participate
  • CRT coverage for the day for all teachers involved
  • Training materials for students and teachers, VET Pathways information on Policing and Transport and Logistics, lunch and morning tea provided for students and staff.

Students will be able to select two industries they would like to be immersed in on this day. Girls interested in IT can choose from four IT companies; Computershare, Taguchi, Aconex, who started up in Melbourne and still have very entrepreneurial mindsets and Amazon Web Services. Swinburne Universities Factory of the future, Innovation precinct and Design Factory combined and also The NAB Village showcasing the future of workspaces.
